Some models of AGA were and still are by special request available with an internal hot water boiler. This is a very simple 'tank' that fits in the cooker and absorbs heat from the burner which is in-turn piped up to the hot water cylinder to heat the domestic hot water and sometimes a small heat-leak radiator. In years gone by this was still an efficient means of heating the water, and it meant the central heating boiler didn't need to fire up to 'just' heat the cylinder.
Modern boilers though are more efficient, and can easily modulate down to cope with the smaller demand when only heating the water. This reduces the warmth to the room, fuel consumption and running costs. We have teamed up with Oil Warm UK to bring you a new type of reconditioned Aga Cooker by radically re-engineering the inner construction without taking away the benefits you love. They can all be independently heat controlled meaning you can be frying on one hob, simmering on the other while roasting in the oven or just have on whatever you need when you want it.
No longer do you need the mercury readout — you control each hob and the top oven from simple and easy to operate controls behind the bottom left hand door 2 door aga.
As you are only switching on and using energy to cook when you need it you are not paying unnecessarily for the oven to be hot when you are asleep, at work etc. One element powers the ovens 2 door and the hobs are independently controlled by their own thermostats and separate elements. By removing a large part of this unwanted mass of cast we have radically improved the heat up times i.
The hobs are now totally independent of the ovens and the reduced mass means you can be frying within 10 minutes from switching either hob on to suit.
In the summer, when you don't need any background heat in the kitchen, you could turn on when you need them with a little forward planning. In the autumn you may wish to run them on low and turn up when you need them. In the winter by all means leave those ovens on so they are always ready for action, warming the kitchen and drying all those soggy clothes! Different tariffs, variable thermal properties in homes, how you use it and how often, and the condition of converted Aga range cookers all contribute to the final figure.
I'll leave you to consider the money you could save over the many years one owns a Aga range cooker! We asked our community to estimate their annual running costs in our 'BIG' survey!
The responses were averaged and you can see below how large the difference is between the best and worst performers. Particularly interesting is the difference between the running costs of electric Aga range cookers. Note how the old-fashioned single element '13amp' systems are almost the most expensive to run with the new 'TC' systems roughly the same as our own 'Electrikit' system.

For more tips and to join our community do have a look at our Facebook page - it's always good fun! Run your Aga range cooker at the right temperature! The front thermometers on Aga range cookers are very inaccurate.
New ones don't even have the black indicator line as it's often so far out! Use an oven thermometer to get the temperature right and then make a small mark in the aluminium front plate with a corkscrew or similar. Do you have a radiator on in the kitchen?
It's probably pointless as your heating thermostat will be in the, much cooler, hallway usually. Turn the kitchen radiator off entirely and save your central heating some work. It's not a question of using less fuel for the Aga range cooker but about offsetting it by using less elsewhere. This tip is closely related to the following one Is your kitchen super warm while the rest of the house freezes? Don't shut the heat in all the time.
Prop the kitchen door open once you have finished supper and let some of the inevitable heat loss from your cooker warm the rest of the house. Let air circulate by propping open a bedroom door upstairs too and cool air will drop slowly as the warm air from your cooker rises. Your Aga range cooker won't use any less fuel but your central heating is getting a helping hand from heat that is released naturally from your cooker.
Keep your Aga range cooker's doors shut!
