This is what I was gonna do next was get a can of Guinness and try that. If I understand from other threads, I should pour the contents into a glass and drink and never drink from the can. I would actually recommend going to a bar and getting it on tap, I can enjoy Guiness from the tap all the time, I have to be in the guiness sort of mood to enjoy it from a can.
In your wrong opinion that is. Guinness, when properly served is excellent. In my correct opinion of course. Beer is an acquired taste. Some people never acquire it. I don't care what you believe, When guiness is bottled it tastes like ass, when it's put in a keg it tastes fucking excellent, and when it's in a can it's rather deicious.
Actually, the glass color does make a difference, as does the can vs. UV rays change the blah blah blah of the yada yada yada and cause a drastic change in the taste of said beverage based on light interference. Someone one who knows what I am talking about can fill the blah's and yada's.
I like Guinness. Its good with a ploughman's lunch, or some roast lambs knuckles with onions and gravy. Ahhh, Guinness. Definitely not for everyone, nor for anyone all the time. It's like having a fine cigar, or a special meal; once in a while.
I think my stomach would turn if I drank Guinness every day. Typically I drink Killian's day-to-day, and mix it up with some darker beers or a stout. But after a hard week, when i just hafta have a beer, I crack a Guinness, pour, wait impatiently for it to settle out, then quaff it as if it was root beer. I can kill half a pint before I know it. The feeling is wonderful. So if you don't like beer, starting with Guinness is going to be pretty punishing.
Start with pilsners, move to ales, then stouts. Once you have your taste buds accustomed to it, try a Guinness. Wow, that's too bad you feel that way. I guess going into the whole shtick about how complex flavors fine wine, beers, cigars, food, etc often require numerous tries to truly appreciate is pointless, then. Matter of fact, I guess that kills the whole art of appreciation and leaves it all up to chance. I would try not to be so hasty and allow your tastes to mature.
They will change, you can be sure of that. The only thing in question is if you will allow your preconcieved notions of what is "good" to change with it.
Sky Slash left out one important point, true for any stout and for many ales: don't drink it cold. I prefer them between degrees. Guinness poured from the draught can is amazing when drank from a glass. Remember that cans are amazing for beer storage for a multitude of reasons but you should always avoid drinking directly from them. Your sense of smell is very important to perception of taste. Guinness is only nitrogen-enriched as it goes from the keg to the glass on draught.

In fact, all the tanks that I have are CO2 tanks. If the new keg tasted off immediately after tapping it, I doubt that it's the gas, as it really didn't have time to get into the beer. I agree that old beer in the gas line could be the culprit. Well, problem solved. The gas line coming out of the keg fitting was missing the check valve is this called a 'Thompson valve'? Anyway, beer had found it's way into the gas line, and what a nasty situation that caused.
I've since replaced the gas line, installed the check valve, and all is well in Guinness land! While it does mean more trips to get it replaced, it's a lot easier handling the smaller bottle than struggling with that 'SCUBA tank'. However, Micromatic. All Rights Reserved.
