Through the delivery of experiential learning in these areas, we help students shape their futures and achieve success. Volunteers from the local business community work in collaboration with classroom teachers. They use a variety of learning methods in our programs — including hands-on activities, classroom discussions and e-learning.
They also share their personal experiences to help students see how these lessons apply to the real world. This engages students, so they can retain and use the knowledge long after the program ends. Students leave programs feeling inspired, ready to make a positive difference in their communities and confident in their abilities.
JA programs align with state and national curriculum standards. What will I be teaching? JA programs begin at the elementary school level, teaching children how they can impact the world around them as individuals, workers and consumers. JA programs continue through the middle grades and high school, focusing on the key content areas of financial literacy, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship. What are the qualifications? No prior training is needed to be a JA volunteer.
You just need enthusiasm, good communication skills and a desire to make a difference. What type of training is involved? The volunteer orientation training takes approximately one hour and is available in-person or online.
JA will send information once registered and scheduled for your first experience. Do I need to create the lesson plans and activities? All the lesson plans and activities for use in the classroom or in our JA experiential learning labs are created for the volunteer and detailed in an easy-to-follow guidebook.
