Last edited by Kaz ; 20 Dec, am. It's best to restart the game, honestly. Without knowledge of in-game items, it'll be hard for you to proceed in the game without Andre. It's expensive though.
If you're going for a INT. Magic does the most damage with or without upgraded staffs or catalysts. The only 2 worth using besides the basic one is the logan and Manus catalysts. Both of which you get end game. You can't upgrade casting tools in the first game. Regardless, you're still missing out on the magical boss weapons, although you can circumvent that with Rickert, the mage smith.

There seems to be a glitch where he randomly disappears from the Undead Parish. This might be a purposeful game mechanic, but he came back after I reloaded the game so I doubt it and I had also never seen it happen in my previous hours of playing.
